The author of The Myth of the Savage passed away in Ottawa on Saturday, her granddaughter announced. She not only achieved Canada's highest honor—the Order of Canada—she also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation.
Dickason was a journalist for the Winnipeg Free Press, Globe and Mail and others, before going on to become a professor at the University of Alberta. Her many books revealed the aboriginal contritions to Canada.
