Actor News: Arnie's Last Stand starts filming

Arnold Schwarzenegger's return to the screen after his stint as governator of California and his disgrace as a cheat in his marriage to Maria Shriver will be The Last Stand. Schwarzenegger's new film started production October 17, Lionsgate announced today. Korean action-suspense master Kim Jee-Woon directs Arnold's return to the screen on locations in New Mexico and Nevada. The script is by Andrew Knauer and Jeffrey Nachmanoff. Other cast include Zach Gilford, Forest Whitaker, Luis Guzman, Rodrigo Santoro, Jaimie Alexander and Harry Dean Stanton.

Schwarzenegger stars as lawman Sheriff Owens in the sleepy border town of Sommerton Junction. He has serious guilt issues after a bungled operation with the LAPD left his partner crippled. Now, after escaping from an FBI prisoner convoy, the most notorious drug kingpin in the hemisphere is hurtling toward the border at 200 mph in a specially outfitted car with a hostage and a fierce army of gang members. He is headed, it turns out, straight for Summerton Junction, where the whole of the US law enforcement will have their last opportunity to make a stand and intercept him before he slips across the border forever.

And it's all up to Owens.

The film is due out in January, 2013.
